SS6 stopped after Duval crash

Stage six of the Rally Japan has been stopped after Francois Duval crashed his Stobart Ford five kilometres from the start.

Emergency crews are attending Duval's co-driver Patrick Pivato, who is reported to be conscious. Duval was able to get out of the car.

Duval and Pivato had moved up to second place behind works Ford driver Mikko Hirvonen in the stage before the crash.

Citroen's Dani Sordo also retired in SS6 with an apparent turbo problem.

Hirvonen now leads from Jari-Matti Latvala, Sebastien Loeb and the two Subarus, although the results are currently provisional as none of the crews behind Duval were able to complete SS6.
