Helio Castroneves is to appear in court in Miami today having been indicted on tax evasion charges.
The Brazilian IRL IndyCar Series front-runner is charged with failing to pay income tax on $5.5 million of earnings between 1999 and 2004.
His sister Katiucia Castroneves, who manages the Penske driver's day-to-day affairs, and lawyer Alan Miller are also included in the indictment.
Castroneves is a double Indianapolis 500 winner, and finished a close second to Scott Dixon in this year's IndyCar Series.
He also has a large public following in the United States after winning the Dancing with the Stars television contest in 2007.
He is due to drive a Penske Porsche for the team's American Le Mans Series arm in the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta this weekend.
