Tarquini beats Zanardi in race two

Gabriele Tarquini strengthened his lead in the World Touring Car Championship by holding off the charging Alex Zanardi at Brno to claim his second win of the season

Tarquini took the lead from SEAT teammate Yvan Muller on the second lap, but once race one winner Zanardi (ROAL BMW) had fought his way up the order from eighth on the grid he was under severe pressure.

The Italian carved into his compatriot's lead at a second a lap in the closing stages, but Tarquini held firm through the last corner to win despite carrying 55kg of ballast.

Chevrolet's Rob Huff claimed third - the second podium of the day for the Lacetti - although the position could have been taken by any number of drivers.

His teammate Alain Menu climbed to second early on, only to be shoved back down the order after contact with Muller. The pair went on to finish seventh and sixth respectively.

Schnitzer Motorsport's Augusto Farfus climbed to fourth ahead of race one runner-up Felix Porteiro, with another BMW driver, Jorg Muller, rounding out the top eight after also being shuffled back in the dramatic battle for the points positions.

Defending champion Andy Priaulx failed to score, coming home ninth, ahead of N.Technology Honda driver James Thompson, who survived being hit repeatedly to claim a top ten finish.

In the Independents' Trophy, ex-GP2 racer Sergio Hernandez won for Proteam Motorsport after teammate Stefano d'Aste was rear-ended by Franz Engstler on the final lap.
