Trident convinced Conway can shine

Trident Racing believe that Mike Conway can bounce back from a difficult rookie season in GP2 when he races for them in 2008

The British driver, who has won races in every category he has raced in, had a difficult year in GP2 this season, where he only finished on the podium once and suffered several retirements.

But Trident team boss Alessandro Alunni Bravi believes that Conway can rediscover the form that he has shown in other junior categories next year.

"We know that next season will be vital for Mike's bid to build a successful future in Formula One," said Bravi. "We will do anything possible to provide him with the best technical material, and to help him in the best possible way.

"After the success he has already achieved on his way to GP2, I'm sure he'll have the chance to repeat that in his second season in the series."

Conway believes that his experience of the circuits will be the main factor that will make him more competitive next year.

"It is quite difficult as a rookie in GP2," said the 24-year-old. "There's not much track time so it's not easy.

"The car isn't easy to drive, you don't know the track and need to learn while staying focused. It's easier at tracks you know, like Silverstone where my results were better."

Bravi added that Conway was the team's main target for their 2008 line-up, despite the fact that he is yet to test with the squad.

"Mike was definitely our first driver choice since the end of the season, and we did the best we could to secure his services," he said.

Conway added: "I didn't test with Trident, but obviously know their capabilities and how good their package is. I know they want to win, and are always pushing hard to achieve that."
