GP MASTERS NEWS

Masters series officially wound up

Nigel Mansell leads the inaugural Grand Prix Masters race at Kyalami in November 2005The company behind the short-lived Grand Prix Masters series was officially wound up in London's High Court yesterday.

A winding-up petition had been presented by GPM's chassis supplier Delta Motorsport and series sponsor Altech.

Three GPM races were held between November 2005 and August 2006, but plans for a full season this year did not come to fruition.

The series had pitted retired Formula One veterans against each other in identical Champ Car-based single-seaters.

Participants included former world champions Emerson Fittipaldi and Nigel Mansell, with the latter winning the first two races. Eddie Cheever took victory in what turned out to be the last ever GPM race at Silverstone last summer.
