Asmer 'lucky' to start second

Marko Asmer says that he was fortunate to qualify second for this weekend's Macau Formula Three Grand Prix after he bent his steering in the second qualifying session

The Estonian was unable to keep his overnight pole position as Oliver Jarvis grabbed top spot, but Asmer was relieved that he was able to stay on the front row after he hit the wall twice during Friday's session.

"Unfortunately I hit the wall a bit," said Asmer. "I didn't damage anything so I came in, changed the tyres and went out with new ones.

"I had one flying lap which I think was a 12.7 and then I went into the wall again, but pretty hard. All the steering was bent and everything."

The British F3 champion was able to go out again though, although his car was damaged for his final run.

"The team did a good job to fix it, and obviously it was not perfect but it was driveable, so I went out again," he added.

"I could not see my lap times on the dash, so I had no clue how quick I was or which lap time I was doing.

"On my final lap my engineer told me just 'push, push, push' and I did my maximum. Luckily it is enough for second."
