125cc: Pesek wins in Australia

Lukas Pesek took his second victory of the 2007 season in a hard-fought race in the 125cc class at Phillip Island

Fighting in a lead pack of up to ten riders, Pesek took the lead for good at the start of the last lap and remained unchallenged to the chequered flag, heading home Joan Olive and championship contender Hector Faubel.

With Gabor Talmacsi finishing the race in eighth place, after losing two positions in the final two laps, the gap between them is down to one point, Talmacsi still leading Faubel with two rounds remaining.

It was a tough battle throughout the race, the lead swapping almost every lap. Pasini and Faubel swapped the lead in the early laps, before Pesek joined in and swapped the lead with Pasini through the middle of the race.

As the race wound down towards the chequered flag, Faubel took the lead, losing it for a lap to teammate Sergio Gadea for a lap before retaking it with four laps remaining.

Then, with two laps remaining, Joan Olive took the lead for the first time, but he only lasted there for a lap as Pesek took second at Lukey Heights on the second last lap before taking the lead on the final lap through Doohan Corner and taking the win.

Gabor Talmacsi briefly led in the first third of the race, before dropping to sixth place, later losing a little ground to the leaders.

He regained the ground with four laps remaining, but then at Siberia on the following lap he fell back again, before falling to eighth by the finish.
