Villeneuve crashes out of Truck race

Jacques Villeneuve had a short afternoon on Saturday after crashing out of his second NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway

The Canadian's race didn't start very well from 10th on the grid, quickly dropping back with a loose truck. Some changes made it a bit better after his first pit stop but still he was unable to remain with the pack.

Then on lap 55 he made contact with another truck exiting turn four while trying to avoid another one in front of him, which was slowing down to drive into the pits. His truck got turned right and into the outside wall, collecting Bryan Silas and TJ Bell with him.

"The trucks in front of me checked up and slowed down trying to allow someone get into the pits," said Villeneuve following the incident. "I slowed down to try to avoid him and got collected. I got hit from behind."

The former Indy 500 champion said he learned his lesson in the draft. The crash and the fact that he lost contact with the pack probably cost him the chance to have some vital running to get more drafting experience under his belt before his Nextel Cup debut on Sunday.

"Well, not to get behind the wrong truck because you know, once you've left the pack, that's it. You're done," Villeneuve said when asked about what lesson he had learned from the race. "Hopefully there are no green [flag] pit stops tomorrow."

Villeneuve has been at the center of some criticism for making his Nextel Cup debut this weekend at Talladega.

His crash will certainly not do him any favors when he gets in the draft with the Cup regulars after starting from sixth place on the grid on Sunday's UAW-Ford 500.

Reigning Truck champion Todd Bodine took victory in the Mountain Dew 250, having started from pole position in the No. 30 Toyota Tundra.
