AGR confirm Franchitti departure

Andretti Green Racing have announced that Dario Franchitti has been released from his contract with the team early.

The 2007 IndyCar Series champion had been set to race in the American Le Mans Series for the team this weekend, which appeared to spoil Chip Ganassi's reported plans to give Franchitti his NASCAR debut at Talladega.

However, Ganassi's deal with the 34-year-old is set to be confirmed later today, and Andretti Green's announcement means that there are no more hurdles to prevent Franchitti from competing in the ARCA race this weekend.

A brief statement from Andretti Green said: "Andretti Green Racing has announced it has released Dario Franchitti from his driver agreement.

"The team's agreement with Franchitti was set to expire later this year."
