Ganassi to announce Franchitti deal

Chip Ganassi Racing will finally announce Wednesday that Dario Franchitti will join their driver line-up with immediate effect, starting next weekend at Talladega Superspeedway where he will compete in an ARCA event.
After months of speculation, the team will finally confirm that the 34-year-old Scot will join former Champ Car rival Juan Pablo Montoya in the same team in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup, racing in the No. 40 car, currently driven by David Stremme.
Speaking to reporters at Kansas Speedway last Sunday, Chip Ganassi had said he was still working on the deal to release the current IRL champion from his contract with Andretti Green Racing, which included racing for them in the American Le Mans Series at Road Atlanta next Saturday.
The official announcement will take place at Chip Ganassi Racing's headquarters in Concord, North Carolina at 10:30am US Eastern Time.
Details of Franchitti's sponsors will not be announced yet, as Coors Light, the main backer of the No. 40 car this year, will not continue with the team after switching their focus to become an official NASCAR sponsor in 2008.
Franchitti will have to get up to speed in a short time for his stock car debut as he skipped last week's major ARCA test at Talladega while his deal with Ganassi and his release from AGR were being finalized.
This year's Indy 500 champion is expected to follow a similar familiarization process to NASCAR to the one of Juan Pablo Montoya, who competed in two ARCA events prior to his Busch Series debut at Memphis, which was followed by his Nextel Cup debut at Homestead last November.
