Dani Pedrosa will remain at Repsol Honda for another two years, his team confirmed in a press conference in Japan on Friday.
The Spaniard's future in MotoGP had been the centre of great speculation after he stalled on committing to a new deal with the Japanese manufacturer.
There had even been rumours that he could be on his way to Pramac D'Antin next year to ride a works-specification Ducati bike.
But the doubts about Pedrosa's future were ended at Motegi when Honda confirmed that he will remain alongside outgoing world champion Nicky Hayden.
Masumi Hamane, the president of HRC, said: "We wanted to wait until today so that both parties would be in agreement."
