Michael Ammermuller will join Carlin Motorsport for the rest of the World Series by Renault championship, as replacement for Sebastian Vettel.
Ammermuller had been due to compete in GP2 this season but his season was derailed after he broke his wrist in the season-opener in Bahrain.
With Vettel having landed a race seat with Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula One, however, a vacancy has emerged for Ammermuller to get back to full-time action. He will join the team from this weekend's round at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
Team boss Trevor Carlin said: "Obviously we are very pleased for Sebastian that he has been given the opportunity to race in Formula One for the remainder of the 2007 season.
"While competing for Carlin, Sebastian has proved himself to be an immensely competitive and intelligent driver and I have no doubt that he will prove an asset to the Toro Rosso team.
"We are very proud of our history of breeding future F1 stars within the Carlin team; unfortunately, this one came a little earlier than expected!"
