Robby Gordon parked by NASCAR

Gordon was fighting for victory in the closing stages of the 75 lap race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, when he was involved in a collision with Australian Marcos Ambrose.

Gordon then failed to obey NASCAR's instructions for positioning his car in the field for the following restart. At the restart, he wrecked Ambrose from the lead of the race on the penultimate lap.

He had also made contact with Ambrose previously under that caution, failed to give up the lead to him behind the safety car and when the race was over he celebrated what he thought was his victory with a burnout, even venturing to drive his car towards Victory Lane before actual winner Kevin Harvick did.

"If the act or omission of a member is determined by a NASCAR official to constitute a threat to the orderly conduct of the event, NASCAR may take emergency action against that member," said NASCAR in a statement after deciding to park Gordon, who was scheduled to race in the Nextel Cup event at Pocono.

Gordon has also been prevented from entering the garage and according to NASCAR, their decision to park Gordon is final, non-appealable and non-reviewable. The ruling body also said they will continue to evaluate the situation and that further penalties for him could be announced this week.

PJ Jones took the wheel of the No. 7 car at Pocono, having completed free practice on Saturday while filling in for Gordon, who drives for his own team Robby Gordon Motorsports. Jones had to start from the back of the field due to the driver change, as it was Gordon who had qualified the car on Friday.

Gordon had been credited with an 18th place finish at Montreal. He is the first driver to be parked by NASCAR since Kevin Harvick at Martinsville in 2002, following incidents involving him in a Craftsman Truck Series race and a Busch Series race.
