Former Grand Prix and touring car driver Hans Stuck was injured in a crash on the Nurburgring Nordschleife at the weekend.
The 56-year-old sustained a broken lumbar vertebra and a bruised heart when he collided with a stationary car during the third round of the Long Distance championship on the German circuit.
The accident was triggered when Stuck collided with a car that he was lapping, and his BMW Z4 then hit another car which had stopped at the side of the track.
After initially being checked in the medical centre at the track, Stuck was flown to hospital in Koblenz by helicopter.
According to his personal website, Stuck is well "considering the circumstances".
In recent years, Stuck's most high-profile events have been the GP Masters races.
