Farfus leads final practice

Local hero Augusto Farfus topped the final half-hour free practice session ahead of qualifying for the opening round of the World Touring Car Championship at Curitiba

The Brazilian, on his first appearance for the Schnitzer BMW team after switching from Alfa Romeo, pipped defending champion Andy Priaulx by 0.114 seconds, although Farfus's fastest time of 1:26.177 is over a second off the anticipated pole time.

Jorg Muller completed a BMW clean sweep of the top three positions, with Alain Menu shading the BMW of Alex Zanardi to make Chevrolet best of the rest. Zanardi's ROAL team-mate Felix Porteiro was fifth fastest ahead of James Thompson and leading independent Sergio Hernandez (Proteam Motorsport BMW).

Gabriele Tarquni was the best of the SEATs in ninth overall ahead of the Chevrolets of Rob Huff and Nicola Larini.
