J Muller fastest in first practice

Schnitzer Motorsport's Jorg Muller topped this morning's first World Touring Car Championship free practice session at Brazilian circuit Curitiba

Muller headed fellow Schintzer driver Augusto Farfus by 0.170 seconds after the duo topped Friday's half-hour pre-race test session.

Yvan Muller was best of the rest in third, heading fellow SEAT Sport drivers Gabriele Tarquini and Jordi Gene.

Defending WTCC champion Andy Priaulx ended the session in eighth, behind the leading Chevrolet Lacettis of Rob Huff and Alain Menu. Former Ferrari Formula 1 driver Nicola Larini (Chevrolet) and ROAL Motorsport's Felix Porteiro completed the top ten.

GP2 convert Sergio Hernandez was best of the independents on his WTCC debut in a Proteam Motorsport-run BMW 320si, one place ahead of team-mate Luca Rangoni.

The indie field has been reduced to five cars after SEAT Italia driver Roberto Colciago was forced to withdraw after crashing with Michel Jourdain Jr in yesterday's test session. Ex-Champ Car ace Jourdain ended the session in 17th after the SEAT Sport team repaired his Leon overnight.
