Jordan: Schumacher legend will grow
Eddie Jordan believes that people will begin to respect Michael Schumacher more now that the German has retired from racing
Jordan gave Schumacher his Formula One debut at Spa in 1991, and the former team boss feels that people will think of Schumacher as 'a legend' over time.
"I think Michael's reputation will grow in stature," Jordan said on the central stage at the Autosport International show.
"If you asked people to vote, we'd all say we prefer Ayrton Senna because sadly he's no longer with us, and very often that happens, because the character gets stronger.
"So I believe that Michael's character, his image with the people, his respect with the people, will grow."
Jordan feels that that even those in the British public who disliked the German will eventually forget about the negative aspects of his career.
"Michael was an awesome, unbelievable racing driver," he said. "There's some parts of his life that we don't necessarily admire, but by and large he has been a huge influence and a great person for Formula One.
"In Britain, we cultivated ourselves into believing we didn't like him. But all of those things mellow into the back our minds. I think the thing that will take the forefront of our thinking will be, Michael Schumacher was a legend."
