Renault boss Flavio Briatore believes Giancarlo Fisichella will be able to fight for the championship in 2007 after two years being overshadowed by Fernando Alonso.
The Italian driver has won only two races in the past two seasons with the French squad while the younger Alonso went on to clinch two consecutive titles before leaving the team to race with McLaren.
Team bosses at Renault believe Fisichella could finally get his chance to shine without Alonso as his teammate, and Briatore claims the team will give the Roman a car to fight at the top.
"Fisichella has the speed and I think this year he'll get his chance. We'll give him a car that will allow him to win," Briatore was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Without Fernando Alonso there are great motivations inside the team. These are frantic days so it's hard to say what will happen. What is certain is that we've done an excellent work this winter."
