Cristiano da Matta has been moved into a regular hospital room as he recovers from his brain surgery following his crash in testing earlier this month.
The Brazilian has been moved out of an 'intermediate care unit' into a regular hospital room, and is becoming responsive to verbal commands, moving his arm and legs regularly.
Champ Car medical director Dr. Chris Pinderski spoke with staff at Theda Clark medical centre.
"He is becoming increasingly responsive to verbal commands from family and hospital staff," Pinderski said. "He continues to make daily progress in his recovery, and we look forward to that trend continuing in the coming days."
