Team Indonesia miss Eastern Creek

A1 Team Indonesia will miss this weekend's A1 Grand Prix meeting at Eastern Creek, Australia, while their driver Ananda Mikola attempts to win the Asian Formula Three Championship

Mikola leads the standings by 26 points with 40 points on offer at the final round at the Batangas Race Circuit in the Philippines this weekend, forcing him to miss the Sydney A1 race. Mikola and the team will return to the A1 GP grid in the Malaysian round in Sepang in two weeks.

The team have not enlisted a replacement, citing a lack of able Indonesian drivers as the main reason.

Russell Christopher, A1 Team Indonesia's commerical director, said: "Ideally, we would have a replacement driver for Ananda to cover circumstances such as this, but we are not quite at the point where there are other Indonesian drivers with the required levels of experience for A1GP.

"One of our goals is to nurture Indonesian driving talent, so we're working towards setting up a driver development programme."

"Ananda is running extremely well in A1GP and his Asian F3 experience is certainly giving him the experience he needs to compete with us. We understand how important it is to him that he competes in the final rounds and A1 Team Indonesia wishes him the best of luck."
