Villeneuve happy with first day

Jacques Villeneuve was in upbeat mood and looking to the future this evening after running his first laps with Sauber at Barcelona.

The Canadian set the third quickest lap of the day and completed 74 laps of the Circuit de Catalunya after taking over testing duties for Peter Sauber's team from his new team-mate Felipe Massa.

"It's been a very good day," said a tired Villeneuve this evening. "It's all about learning for me and the team and we learned a lot of things. It's a beginning - a totally new adventure. We have two years together now and have to plan ahead.

"Of course we can dream of winning championships, but we have to be realistic and we have a lot to learn."

Villeneuve got down to a time of 1m15.219s by the end of the day and is reported to have gelled well with the team. The Sauber engineers were impressed by his approach, commenting particularly on his attention to detail.

Sauber is now packing up and heading back to Switzerland, while the other teams leave one car behind for wet track testing tomorrow.
