Renault tests World Series car
The new World Series by Renault, which will replace the out-going Dallara Nissan category, gave its first chassis a run out at Vairano last week
The updated Dallara-built car, now powered by a new 3.5-litre Renault V6 engine, was driven during the test by former Prost F1 test driver Jonathan Cochet.
"We are happy with this first outing," said the project's development manager Jerôme Mortal. "This was very much a warm-up. The result is as expected and we're confident for the future."
The oversubscribed new series is expected to boast 30-car grids from 15 teams. Renault now plans an exhaustive development programme for the winter to ready the cars in time for the first race of the new series at Zolder on May 1 next year.
"On the track, we'll be making sure that the technical performance is compliant with the initial specs," pointed out Jean-Paul Mari, Renault Sport's motorsport and communications director. "Now the car's on the track, we can really roll up our sleeves and get to work on getting the reliability and the dynamics right."
