Perfect 10 for World Series

The new World Series by Renault which will combine the old Formula Renault V6 and World Series by Nissan will run over 10 meetings in 10 different countries in 2005

The cars will, as expected, be based on the current Dallaras used in the Nissan series and they will be powered by a new V6 engine developing 425bhp. Fields will be capped at 28 cars from 14 teams and squads currently involved in one or other of the parent categories will initially be given priority for places on the grid.

A definitive calendar will not be announced until October, but Renault Sport and its partner in the venture - World Series promoter RPM - have released details of the tracks they intend to run rounds on. They include Monaco and a round in the UK at Donington Park.

The new engine will be developed by Solution F from a base unit supplied by Nissan's racing arm NISMO. The 425bhp unit will be mated to a gearbox from Ricardo.

Renault says the cars will be sufficiently different from the current Nissan-powered Dallaras to ensure that World Series teams will have no advantage over Formula Renault V6 squads and it has pledged to keep costs under control.

The new series will headline meetings which will have a strong support package, featuring the new Renault Megane Trophy and Formula Renault 2000 as well as Renault categories - like the Clio Cup and Formula Renault 1600 from the national series of the countries visited.

Renault aims to promote the meetings vigorously and it will organise added attractions like concerts and parades of historic cars. Demonstration runs from the Renault F1 team will also be frequent additions to the fun.
