Days of Thunder is go
Autosport.com has joined forces with Rockingham's Days of Thunder Championship to allow readers to get more involved with the championship. We're offering you the chance of winning a trip for 2 people to the Days of Thunder Awards Dinner, by voting for your driver of the day after each of the series' six double-header events
On the Monday after every meeting, Autosport will name three drivers who have shown real star quality over the weekend. All you have to do is vote for your Driver of the Day from the three selected, and answer one question. The driver with the most votes at the end of the Championship will be voted Autosport's Driver of the Year, and will receive a trophy at the Awards Dinner, presented by the winner of the competition.
The championship kicks off this Sunday at Rockingham with a host of big names lining up on the grid. Defending champion Ben Collins is hoping to follow in Darren Manning's footsteps and forge a career on the US ovals later this season, and will combine his planned IRL IndyCar outings with defending his title.
Among his rivals are former European Le Mans series class champion Ian McKellar Jr, sometime NASCAR Busch Series racer Michael Vergers and short oval graduate Colin White, who holds the career points record for the championship.
With top speeds in excess of 170mph and crowds averaging in excess of 30,000 spectators last season, Europe's headline oval racing series is set for its biggest season yet in 2004.
