Josef Newgarden heads Penske sweep of Road America IndyCar practice
Josef Newgarden headed a Team Penske 1-2-3-4 in the second practice session ahead of the IndyCar race at Road America this Sunday
Newgarden's time of 1m42.8229s came with six minutes of the 45-minute session remaining, outpacing team-mate Will Power by 0.0491s.
Power completed the most timed laps with 16, setting his best time on his final lap at the end of the session.
Simon Pagenaud and Helio Castroneves were 0.3141s and 0.3998s behind Newgarden respectively.
Schmidt Peterson's James Hinchcliffe was the fastest Honda-powered driver in fifth place, over six tenths behind pacesetter Newgarden.
Rookie Ed Jones was sixth for Dale Coyne Racing, ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's Graham Rahal.
Andretti Autosport's Ryan Hunter-Reay recovered from his brush with the tyre barrier in the first practice session with ninth place ahead of Ganassi's Charlie Kimball, the final driver to be within a second of Newgarden's time.
First session pacesetter Alexander Rossi hit the wall at the final corner six minutes into the session, resulting in front wing damage. Rossi was able to return to the track after 10 minutes in the pits and finished 11th.
Robert Wickens ended his second session in an IndyCar standing in for Mikhail Aleshin in 20th place, ahead of Conor Daly.
Daly was slowest of the runners, over two seconds behind Newgarden.
