Fittipaldi overcomes Nissany to take second Monza pole

Pietro Fittipaldi doubled up in the second Formula V8 3.5 qualifying session at Monza, prevailing in a session-long battle with Roy Nissany

Nissany led early on in the running, but he and Fittipaldi improved on their first flying laps in the second half of the session before the Lotus driver went two hundredths of a second quicker.

Fittipaldi's lead was up to a tenth after the next quick laps and both had time for another try, with Nissany setting a fastest first sector.

However, the Israeli driver couldn't go quicker after an excursion into the gravel at the exit of the second Lesmo.

Egor Orudzhev then went off at Parabolica, preventing Fittipaldi from improving, but the Brazilian's benchmark time of 1m33.813s remained the fastest.

Nissany was second, as Rene Binder in the second Lotus was third, more than 0.5s slower than his teammate.

Matevos Isaakyan was fourth, with his teammate Orudzhev ending up in a lowly 11th.

RP's Yu Kanamaru finished fifth, ahead of the Fortec duo of Alfonso Celis and Diego Menchaca, and teammate Damiano Fioravanti.

Celis also made a mistake during his final lap by going off at the second Lesmo, but the Mexican managed to rejoin the track.

The top 10 was completed by Teo Martin Motorsport's Konstantin Tereshchenko and Nelson Mason.
