WTCC racer Rob Huff joins TCR International field with WRT VW

Rob Huff will contest the majority of the remainder of the 2017 TCR International Series alongside his World Touring Car Championship campaign

Huff, the 2012 WTCC champion, raced a Team WRT Volkswagen Golf in the TCR Benelux rounds at Spa-Francorchamps last month and has now agreed a deal to join points leader Jean-Karl Vernay at the squad in the International championship too.

The pair shared a car at Spa, taking four podiums, and Huff will drive the team's second VW from this weekend's International round at the Belgian Grand Prix venue.

"The deal came after the Benelux race event, which was a success despite having to discover a new team, a new car and category," said Huff.

"I had a great time getting to know the team last weekend at Spa, and I think we're going to have a great rest of the season together."

Huff will miss the following week's Monza TCR round as it clashes with the WTCC's Hungaroring event, but will then complete the season with WRT.

He previously appeared in TCR for its Macau round in 2015 and took a race win in a West Coast Racing Honda.

"TCR is also a brilliant championship to be involved in," added Huff, who is racing a Munnich Motorsport Citroen in the WTCC this year.

"There's a lot of future touring car talent rising up through there, and also great door-to-door racing.

"As the levels of the cars are balanced, it's a lot less about the car but the driver."

Vernay leads the TCR International standings by one point over ex-WTCC racer Dusan Borkovic after the opening rounds in Georgia and Bahrain.
