Ferrari F1 junior Fuoco loses front row start for F2 Bahrain race

Ferrari junior Antonio Fuoco has lost his front row start for the Formula 2 feature race in Bahrain for impeding Artem Markelov during qualifying

The Italian had qualified second behind his Prema team-mate and fellow Ferrari Academy driver Charles Leclerc for his F2 debut but was penalised three places for the incident with the Russian Time driver and will start from fifth as a result.

"We put together a good showing today and while it's a bit of a pity for the penalty, we clearly demonstrated what our potential is," he said.

As a result of Fuoco's penalty, Rapax driver and McLaren Formula 1 junior driver Nyck de Vries will start in second place alongside Leclerc on the front row.

Four other drivers were handed penalties after qualifying - Gustav Malja, Sean Gelael, Sergio Canamasas and Stefano Coletti.

Gelael, Canamasas and Coletti, and were all handed five-place penalties for failing to slow sufficiently for the virtual safety car that was triggered when Malja and Trident's Nabil Jeffri collided at Turn 9 late in qualifying.

Malja was handed a five place penalty after the stewards deemed he had driven "in a potentially dangerous manner".

Coletti, Canamasas and Gelael had qualified 17th, 18th and 19th and because they cannot therefore drop five places on the grid they will start the feature race from the pitlane.
