Dallara becomes first constructor to test 2017 LMP2 car

Dallara has become the first constructor to test a 2017 LMP2 car.

The Italian marque's first P2 design was given a shakedown test earlier this month in the Cadillac-powered Daytona Prototype international specification in which it will race in next year's IMSA SportsCar Championship.

The test was undertaken by the Wayne Taylor Racing squad at a venue close to its Indianapolis workshops, believed to be Indianapolis Raceway Park.

All three of its IMSA drivers, Ricky and Jordan Taylor and Max Angelelli, are understood to have driven the car.

No official comment has been forthcoming on the test, WTR team boss Wayne Taylor only confirming that he has taken delivery of the car.

It is understood that the Dallara did not run in its final form and was missing some aerodynamic components.

The DPi rules allow manufacturers to use their own engines rather than the one-make Gibson V8 that will be mandatory for the World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series, as well as to produce their own bodywork.

The first test of a pure LMP2-rules Dallara with the Gibson powerplant is expected to take place within the next couple of weeks.

The other three constructors licensed to produce cars for the new LMP2 formula next season are all nearing the first test of their challengers.

Onroak Automotive is planning to test its new Ligier JSP217 next week ahead of its launch on Friday in the build-up to the Spa European Le Mans Series round.

ORECA is on schedule to run its 2017 P2, which is based on the same monocoque as its existing 05 coupe, in October as planned

Riley has yet to schedule a test for its new P2 design, undertaken in conjunction with Multimatic.
