Snetterton BTCC: Mercedes driver Morgan fastest in practice
Ciceley Racing Mercedes driver Adam Morgan set the fastest time over the two free practice sessions ahead of this weekend's British Touring Car Championship meeting at Snetterton
His A-Class lapped the 2.99-mile track in 1m56.139s during the latter part of the second 40-minute timed session to finish two-tenths clear of the factory Triple Eight Racing MG of Ashley Sutton on a 1m56.371s.
Team BKR Volkswagen racer Aron Smith was third fastest from Tom Ingram's Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis in fourth.
Northern Irishman Colin Turkington was the leading factory Subaru Levorg. He topped the opening session in his rear-wheel-drive Team BMR-run machine but slipped to fifth in the next outing.
Championship leader Sam Tordoff was second in the opening session but was sixth after the second period, recording a 1m56.730s in the WSR BMW 125i M Sport.
Reigning Gordon Shedden tried a different engine in the opening free practice session but reverted to the newer-spec motor in the factory Honda Civic Type-R for the second session.
The Scotsman missed the opening portion of free practice two while the powerplant was swapped, but rebounded with the ninth quickest time.
Rob Collard, who comes into the meeting second in the points, missed a chunk of running during the opening session with a power steering problem but ran cleanly in the second timed practice, posting the 12th best time - one place ahead of third-in-the-points Matt Neal in his factory Honda Civic Type-R.
Jason Plato struggled for pace in his Subaru Levorg and could only manage 14th in the opening period, before slipping to 21st in the second period.
The qualifying session gets underway at 3:50pm on Saturday.
