BTCC driver Daniel Lloyd forced to step down from Eurotech drive

Daniel Lloyd has been forced to step down from the Eurotech Honda British Touring Car Championship team ahead of this weekend's Snetterton round due to a funding shortfall

Former GT racer Lloyd joined the field in a third Eurotech entry alongside Jeff Smith and Martin Depper at the third round of the season at Thruxton when the team picked up the TOCA BTCC Licence made available with Andy Neate's departure from the works Honda squad.

Lloyd then qualified on the front row at both Oulton Park and Croft.

But the team issued a statement on Wednesday morning announcing that "despite a huge amount of effort from all sides", the "financial constraints of a major sponsor" meant he would have to withdraw from the series.

"I'm absolutely gutted to be missing the second half of the season," said Lloyd.

"We have been in talks with a large sponsor since the start of the season and all of the plans we were in place for funding for the remaining rounds right up until last week, but then unfortunately it all fell through at the last minute.

"It's a pretty bitter pill to take especially after the results we've had in the three rounds we've competed in."

The Eurotech statement added: "The team are all gutted, with everyone having put so much work in behind the scenes to make it happen.

"Daniel fitted into the team seamlessly and we were really looking forward to building on the huge potential and capability he has shown in the car.

"Eurotech will continue to work with Daniel to try and secure a drive in the future."

Lloyd's departure is the second change to the BTCC entry list ahead of its resumption after its mid-season break this weekend.

On Tuesday Team Hard announced that it was replacing Chris Smiley with 2012 British GT champion and BTCC returnee Michael Caine.
