Ex-F1 driver Chandhok rejoins Murphy Prototypes ELMS outfit
Ex-Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok will return to the Murphy Prototypes LMP2 squad for this weekend's Red Bull Ring round of the European Le Mans Series
Channel 4's F1 technical expert will be driving the Murphy ORECA-Nissan 03R for the first time since the last of his three Le Mans 24 Hours appearances with the Anglo-Irish team in 2015.
Chandhok will race the car on a one-off basis alongside Murphy junior driver Sean Doyle and Group CN graduate Guglielmo Belotti.
Team boss Greg Murphy told Autosport: "We had a vacancy for this weekend and it made sense to put Karun in because he's a friend of the team and he knows the car inside out.
"He's also going to be a big help for the other two guys in the car."
Chandhok said: "I was at the Red Bull Ring just two weeks ago for the F1 weekend, so it's going to be great to actually go back to drive there.
"I had a run around the track when I was there and, having never competed at the circuit before, I'm really looking forward to it."
Murphy has yet to confirm its driver line-up for the final three races of the six-round ELMS.
The team is not running its new Ave-Riley AR2 LMP3 car this weekend, but has been putting its first miles on the Nissan-powered machine at the Red Bull Ring today.
The car is due to be homologated in time for it to compete in the next round of the series at Paul Ricard at the end of August.
