Ex-F1 driver Antonio Pizzonia joins Manor for Nurburgring WEC race

Ex-Formula 1 driver Antonio Pizzonia is set to return to the World Endurance Championship with the Manor LMP2 team later this month

The former Jaguar and Williams racer, who was a WEC P2 class winner with the Delta-ADR squad in 2013, has been listed on the entry for the German event on July 24 in place of Will Stevens in the #44 Manor ORECA-Nissan 05.

Manor is not commenting on its nomination of Pizzonia for the race at this stage, but it is expected that he will drive alongside James Jakes and Tor Graves.

Stevens had been scheduled to return to the Manor line-up for the remainder of the WEC after racing for the Jota-run G-Drive LMP2 squad at the Le Mans 24 Hours round last month.

Pizziona's inclusion at Manor would mark the Brazilian's return to the team with which he won the 2000 British Formula 3 Championship and the 1999 Formula Renault UK title.

The second Manor car, which did not have an entry for Le Mans, reverts to its regular WEC line-up of Roberto Merhi, Richard Bradley and Matt Rao for the Nurburgring.

Other changes to the WEC entry for Germany include the addition of Harry Tincknell in the #67 Ganassi Ford GT and a slimmed down driver line-up for Aston Martin Racing's pair of GTE Pro entries.

Mathias Beche returns to the #12 Rebellion Racing privateer LMP1 entry as scheduled to take the seat filled by Nelson Piquet Jr for the first three races.

Devi Markozov retakes the place filled at Le Mans by IndyCar driver Mikhail Aleshin in the #27 SMP Racing BRE-Nissan BR01 at Le Mans.
