Arjun Maini set to join GP3 grid, possibly for Silverstone
Formula 3 European Championship refugee Arjun Maini looks set to join the GP3 grid, possibly as early as next weekend's round at Silverstone
The Indian teenager called time on his F3 programme with T-Sport after making disappointing progress over the opening four rounds of the 2016 campaign.
Maini is present this weekend at the Red Bull Ring with Jenzer Motorsport, which is running Oscar Tunjo, Richard Gonda and Akash Nandy.
Although Jenzer has a fourth GP3 entry, Autosport understands that Maini could replace one of these drivers.
Team principal Andreas Jenzer told Autosport: "We are looking at doing something.
"We will probably know after this weekend what is going to happen."
LECLERC TOPS FREE PRACTICE
Ferrari Formula 1 protege Charles Leclerc topped GP3 free practice at the Red Bull Ring as the ART Grand Prix team moved to the fore late in the session.
Leclerc, who begins his Friday F1 practice duties with Haas at Silverstone next weekend, headed team-mate Nyck de Vries by 0.041 seconds, with Campos Racing's Steijn Schothorst third.
The session was red-flagged after Giuliano Alesi escaped from a heavy impact with the Turn 1 barriers - the Trident driver emerged from his car unaided but it is understood he needs a medical check-up to get the all-clear for qualifying and racing.
