Speedworks' Tom Ingram leads mid-season BTCC test at Snetterton

Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis driver Tom Ingram topped the times during the British Touring Car Championship's tyre test at Snetterton

Ingram, who is sixth in the standings at the halfway stage, was the fastest driver on the opening day of running, clocking a 1m55.932s around the 2.97-mile Norfolk track. He was fourth fastest on the second day.

He was in front of Andrew Jordan's Motorbase Performance Ford Focus, who also set his quickest lap time on the opening day.

The one-time 2016 race winner, who is fourth in the standings, clocked a 1m56.416s. He was sixth on Thursday.

BTCC newcomer Daniel Lloyd was third on the combined times, ahead of Eurotech Racing Honda Civic team-mate Jeff Smith, who was third on the second day, while Lloyd was second.

The leading factory Team BMR Subaru Levorg was Colin Turkington's example. He clocked 1m57.572s to finish in 11th on Thursday. The leading works Honda Civic Type R was Gordon Shedden in 12th with a 1m57.688s.

Several drivers made their debuts in the BTCC during the test session.

GT racer Dennis Strandberg drove a Maximum Motorsport Ford Focus during the second day of running, while Renault Clio Cup points leader Ant Whorton-Eales drove a Team Hard Toyota Avensis.

VW Cup racer Bobby Thompson drove the Power Maxed Racing Chevrolet Cruze.

The next rounds of the British Touring Car Championship take place at Snetterton on July 30/31.
