Croft BTCC: Collard wins after Plato and Turkington Subarus collide

Rob Collard won the second British Touring Car Championship race at Croft after Subaru team-mates Jason Plato and Colin Turkington clashed while dicing for the lead

Rob Collard won the second British Touring Car Championship race at Croft after Subaru team-mates Jason Plato and Colin Turkington clashed while dicing for the lead.

The Team BMR-run Levorgs had looked set to repeat their earlier one-two finish after settling into the top two positions when the lights went out, with Plato taking the lead from Turkington into Clervaux for the first time.

The pair ran together at the front through to the fifth of 16 laps when Turkington moved ahead on the run to Tower, but it would all go wrong three laps later when Plato attempted to retake the position going into the same corner.

Contact left Turkington sideways and Plato had to back off, opening the pair up to attack from behind.

While Jack Goff in third was forced to jump on the brakes to avoid running into the rear of Turkington's car, fourth-placed Collard made his move up the inside on the exit of the corner to sweep into the lead into the Jim Clark esses and then edged away to secure his second victory of the season; taking his 50th BTCC podium in the process.

Plato and Turkington followed behind to ensure BMR could at least celebrate another double podium with Goff taking fourth as rear-wheel drive cars locked out the top four positions.

As in race one, the MG of Ashley Sutton would be best of the rest, the rookie driver the top runner on the hard compound tyre ahead of Mat Jackson's Ford Focus and the Toyota of Tom Ingram.

Having been forced into an engine change after race one, Sam Tordoff produced a battling drive through to eighth place - which included running into the rear of Ingram as the pair came out of the final hairpin for the last time.

The result was good enough to move Tordoff back into the points lead, while he will also start race three from pole position after TT star John McGuiness drew eight on the reverse grid draw.

Andrew Jordan, who was only able to take part in the race after Motorbase completed a gearbox change with seconds to spare, and Matt Neal rounded out the top 10.
