Katherine Legge joins Michael Shank Racing for Detroit IMSA round
DeltaWing driver Katherine Legge has been drafted into Michael Shank Racing's late entry for next month's IMSA SportsCar Championship round in Detroit
DeltaWing's planned absence from the Detroit event on June 4 has allowed Legge to be loaned out to the Shank team to drive its Ligier-Honda JSP2 alongside team regular Oswaldo Negri Jr.
Shank was also scheduled to miss the city race on the Belle Isle circuit because it clashes with the Le Mans test day, but the team has now altered its plans to take part in the IMSA event as well.
Its IMSA Ligier will be run by a combination of its own crew and mechanics from the Doran Racing team.
The rest of Shank's staff will be in France for the mandatory test where they will run a second Honda-powered Ligier with support from the builder of the car, Onroak Automotive.
John Pew, Negri's full-season partner in the IMSA series, will focus on taking part in the test day, while Negri travels overnight from the US to France.
Audi GT driver Laurens Vanthoor is the team's additional driver for the 24 Hours.
Team owner Mike Shank, whose squad won the most recent IMSA round at Laguna Seca earlier this month, said: "I have to admit that I hated the idea of missing Detroit, so for everything to come together for us to race that weekend the way it has, I'm really happy."
Shank also thanked the Panoz DeltaWing Racing team for the loan of former IndyCar driver Legge.
She said that she was looking forward to her first time at the wheel of an LMP2 car and her first experience of the Detroit track.
The Shank team, which is making its first assault on Le Mans this year, will use the same chassis at Le Mans that won the Daytona and Sebring IMSA enduros in the colours of Extreme Speed Motorsports.
