Honda, Lada get fresh World Touring Car Championship weight break

The Honda and Lada World Touring Car Championship teams have received a weight break following a second review of the championship's success ballast levels

Having run without ballast during the opening two rounds of the season, Honda and Lada were handed 70 and 50 kilograms respectively ahead of the third round of the season at the Hungaroring last weekend, based on their pace during the opening two weekends of competition.

But following the second scheduled review, those levels have been revised down to 40 and 30 kilograms of ballast as the Civic and the Vesta were respectively found to be 0.4 and 0.5 seconds slower than the pacesetting Citroen C-Elysee.

Both the works Volvo S60 Polestar and the independent Chevrolet Cruze models will remain without ballast.

The changes will be applied for the fourth round of the season in Marrakech, which takes place next weekend.

Under changes to the compensatory weight system for 2016, the upper limit of success ballast was raised to 80 kilograms, with reviews taking place after each round.

Campaigning the championship-winning car, the factory Citroen and independent Sebastien Loeb Racing teams have both run with the maximum 80 kilograms at each event so far this season and will continue to do so next weekend.

The Honda Civics fared well compared to the C-Elysees at the Hungaroring, with Rob Huff and Tiago Monteiro making the third qualifying session behind world champion Jose Maria Lopez.

Huff also challenged Lopez and his Citroen team-mate Yvan Muller in the main race before being hit with a penalty, although the event was held in wet conditions.
