Mazzacane linked to Prost deal
Prost Grand Prix has refused to comment on speculation that it has concluded a deal with Argentinian driver Gaston Mazzacane for next season.
The 25-year-old, who drove for Minardi this year, has been linked with either a test or race contract with the beleaguered French outfit. Mazzacane was expected to run again for Arrows in Barcelona this week, following on from his rain-interrupted test at Silverstone on December 1, but this has apparently been cancelled, fueling the speculation of a Prost deal. He would bring much-needed finance to Prost, which has yet to announce a sponsor to replace Gauloises.
Prost has also been linked with Singapore-born Christian Murchison, who was this year's Rookie of the Year in the F3000-based Formula Holden series in Australia. He hopes to bring Singaporean finance to the GP team's FIA F3000 arm, and also tested for the Red Bull Junior team recently.
When asked about both drivers, a Prost spokeswoman said: "There is no foundation to that. We will announce our plans for next season in the first week of the New Year."
Prost has already tested several candidates for its second seat alongside Jean Alesi in Barcelona last week, including F3000 star Enrique Bernoldi, CART ace Oriol Servia and Xavier Armant.
