Sebring test: Penske on top

Helio Castroneves ran less than 50miles on Wednesday at Sebring, but the Brazilian was still able to set the fastest lap of the day, keeping spirits high at Penske. He had run more than 250 miles on Tuesday

Castroneves was running a new 2001 Reynard, but minor technichal problems halted the team in the afternoon, so they decided to take advantage of CART's test rules that state that if less than 50 miles are run, then the day will not count against the team's limited allocation of test days.

Penske has remained at Sebring for an anticipated full day on Thursday.

Indy Lights champion Scott Dixon put in some laps with PacWest's new Reynard-Toyota, despite not having yet been officially confirmed as the team's 2001 driver, replacing Mark Blundell. The Kiwi is expected to be confirmed in the New Year.

Another driver getting his first taste of the 2001 Reynard was Dario Franchitti. The Scot ran laps in an unliveried Team Green car, getting within half a second of Castroneves's best in his first run since the Fontana season-closer.
