First day of World RX Argentina postponed due to conditions

The first day of the World Rallycross Championship finale at Rosario in Argentina has been postponed after just two races due to bad conditions

Stewards' Decision No.2, led by Chair of the Stewards Ludek Kopecky, states: "Stewards of the meeting decided after an extra ordinary meeting to postpone Saturday's programme, for safety reasons due to track conditions during the two races of heat one.

"The stewards have given time to the organiser for preparation of the track for tomorrow.

"Sunday's programme will start at 9:00am with heat one. Warm-up is cancelled."

All four heats will now be run on Sunday. Of those who did compete in the first attempt at the heat races, championship leader Petter Solberg won the first race ahead of Toomas Heikkinen and his SDRX team mate Liam Doran, the British driver one of those most affected by the conditions.

"I just couldn't see anything," said Doran. "The dust was really, really difficult to drive in so I think it's totally the right decision."

At the championship's final round, Solberg just needs to qualify for the semi-finals to be crowned World RX champion for a second time.

The Norwegian was fourth fastest in free practice, behind Heikkinen, Reinis Nitiss and Johan Kristoffersson, but he was quickest of the nine drivers who completed the two first heat races.

Those times will now be wiped, the event effectively starting from scratch tomorrow morning.

Two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom returns to World RX for the final round but he suffered an engine problem in his opening free practice run.

The EKS team swapped the unit during the two one-hour sessions and the Swede was able to set six lap times, albeit slowest of the 19 entrants.

The World Rallycross Championship has once before run all four heat races, semi-finals and finals in one day, at the Canadian round at Trois-Rivieres in 2014.
