Aspar Ducati's Eugene Laverty injured in Jerez MotoGP test crash

Aspar Ducati MotoGP rider Eugene Laverty sustained a broken wrist in a test crash at Jerez on Thursday

Laverty fell at the fast left-handed Turn 7 near the end of what would have been his penultimate day of running for 2015.

A fracture to the radius on his left arm and a dislocated shoulder were diagnosed at a local hospital, and he will also undergo a CAT scan on Thursday night to check for any head injuries from the blow he received during the accident.

Laverty is then scheduled to fly to Barcelona for an operation to repair the wrist fracture on Friday under the leadership of regular MotoGP surgeon Dr Xavier Mir at the Quiron Dexeus university hospital.

"It's a disappointing end to a good day of testing," said Laverty.

"We made good progress with the new electronics and the last exit before I crashed was probably the first time we had the bike working correctly.

"The laptimes were getting better and then I crashed, so I'm disappointed."

His team-mate Yonny Hernandez will complete Aspar's test solo.

Laverty remained upbeat about the work Aspar had achieved this week and is certain of being fit for the first official 2016 test at Sepang in February.

"It would always be nice to do another day but the positive thing is that the bike is working well, we are not too far away from the others and Yonny can continue to test tomorrow," he said.

"Also the Ducati guys are making a big effort so the aim right now is to recover and return in Sepang in a good way."

Factory Ducati rider Michele Pirro also had a crash on Thursday afternoon.

The works and Aspar Ducati teams are sharing the Spanish Grand Prix venue with Honda and Aprilia plus a handful of World Superbike teams for a three-day private test this week.
