Alex de Angelis leaves hospital, eyes 2016 MotoGP return

Alex de Angelis has left hospital following his MotoGP crash at Motegi earlier this month, and is targeting a return to riding in 2016

After sustaining head, lung, rib and spinal injuries during practice for the Japanese Grand Prix, de Angelis spent nearly two weeks in the nearby Dokkyo Hospital.

He returned to Italy earlier this week, and after 48 hours in the Hospital of the State of San Marino has now been released.

The 31-year-old will wear a corset for the next seven weeks as his recovery continues and rehabilitation commences, with a view to getting back on a bike for 2016 MotoGP pre-season testing in February.

"I'm really happy to be back home," de Angelis said.

"This is a very positive sign for me and I'm looking forward to getting back to train.

"The doctors have ruled out coming back on my bike for the time being, but it's OK because in the winter however you cannot try or ride.

"I will use this time to get back in shape and to get to the first test of the next year ready for the season.

"Once again I want to thank all the medical staff who assisted me both in Japan and in San Marino.

"Thanks again to the Clinica Mobile and to all the fans and friends that make me feel their closeness, even when I was away."
