Brands Hatch BTCC: Morgan leads title contender Plato in practice
Ciceley Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class driver Adam Morgan topped the opening free practice session for this weekend's British Touring Car Championship finale at Brands Hatch
The 26-year-old lapped the 2.433-mile circuit in 1m31.428s to head the times, although he was unable to complete the session as his car suffered an electrical problem in the dying moments and he was forced to stop at Druids.
Morgan was nevertheless ahead of championship contender Jason Plato, who posted a 1m31.597s lap in his VW CC.
How the BTCC title can be won
Plato's main rival for the crown, Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type R driver Gordon Shedden, who is 23 points clear in the standings, was down in 10th place after a spin at Graham Hill Bend towards the end of the interrupted session.
Motorbase Ford Focus driver Mat Jackson, a two-time winner this year, was third fastest ahead of Colin Turkington (Team BMR VW CC), Jack Goff's Triple Eight Racing MG and Andy Priaulx's WSR BMW 125i M Sport.
Series returnee Alain Menu, drafted in to the Team BMR VW CC squad in place of the injured Warren Scott, was only able to complete one lap due to a power steering problem.
