NASCAR qualifying at Dover cancelled due to extreme weather
NASCAR has cancelled Sprint Cup qualifying at Dover due to extreme weather associated with Hurricane Joaquin, putting Chase leader Matt Kenseth on pole
The poor weather has caused all of Friday's planned track action to be called off.
That means no practice running will take place on the opening day either, preventing the grid from being decided by practice pace.
The previous system of setting grids on championship standings will therefore be used, putting Kenseth on pole ahead of his Joe Gibbs Racing team-mates Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.
Joey Logano and Jimmie Johnson will complete the top five.
Sunday's race is the first cut-off point in the 2015 Chase, with four of the 16 title contenders eliminated afterwards.
Reigning champion Kevin Harvick is among those currently in trouble, sitting 15th in the standings and therefore the Dover starting order too.
The weather forecast is set to improve later in the weekend, meaning the race is expected to go ahead as scheduled on Sunday afternoon.
