Moreno tests 2001 Reynard at Sebring

The Brazilian shook down the car just four days after it had arrived in Pat Patrick's workshops. Patrick opted to buy new cars because it has switched to Toyota power for next year, and the engine mountings gearbox and fuel tank are different to the Ford unit it ran this season.

Patrick has renewed his deal with Moreno, who has often been regarded as Champcar's 'supersub' in recent years. The duo retains Visteon backing for 2001, a partnership that powered Moreno to third in this year's CART standings.

"We are very pleased to have Roberto back in the Visteon Patrick Racing team," said Patrick. "His contributions last year were instrumental to the success of the team. Now he has a year's experience of racing in a competitive situation, he will be even stronger in the coming season."

Moreno said: "Throughout my career I have spent the off-season looking for sponsors, equipment and teams. It is very gratifying to have everything in place. The team had a great year last season, but with a bit of luck, hopefully we can go two places better this time."

Moreno's team-mate has yet to be decided, although Jimmy Vasser remains in the frame as his rumoured deal with Mo Nunn Racing has yet to be confirmed. Sources in America have suggested Vasser was spotted at Patrick's Indianapolis base having a seat fitting earlier this week.

Also at Sebring, Christian Fittipaldi sampled Toyota power for the first time in the back of his Newman-Haas Lola.
