BTCC Rockingham: Andrew Jordan fastest in practice

Andrew Jordan set the fastest time across the two British Touring Car Championship practice sessions at Rockingham

MG has taken pole on each of the last three visits to the Corby venue, and 2013 champion Jordan edged out FP1 pacesetter Tom Ingram to lead the way ahead of qualifying later on Saturday.

Jordan, who ran second to team-mate Jack Goff in the early stages of the session, waited until the last few minutes before delivering a benchmark 1m22.553s.

That shaded Ingram's Speedworks Toyota Avensis by just 0.009s, a gap indicative of a very tight session.

Championship leader Jason Plato was third-fastest just 0.049s slower than Jordan, while Goff improved on his final lap to wind up fourth, 0.062s back from his team-mate.

Plato's nearest championship rival Gordon Shedden was sixth in the lead Honda Civic Type-R, with the other Team BMR Volkswagen CCs of Aron Smith and Colin Turkington also in the top 10.

It was a busy FP2 after early-morning rain meant the opening practice session started with a damp track, and several drivers kept their running at a minimum.

Ingram eventually emerged quickest from the largely meaningless opening session, his 1m24.157s almost two seconds from the FP2 benchmark.

Dave Newsham was three tenths behind the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis, while Josh Cook was third in the other Chevrolet Cruze.

Emphasising the insignificance of FP1 for the usual frontrunners was Plato's absence. The points leader was 30th, with no timed laps and two installation runs to his name.
