New deal secures future of Czech MotoGP at Brno

There had been speculation that the Czech race's position on the calendar was in doubt, but a new collaboration between the regional Moravian government and the city of Brno to act has promoters of the event will guarantee its place.

The CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta, said of the deal: "The Czech GP is one of the highlights of the championship as it's been on the calendar for 50 years and as we see this weekend again, it's a very popular event.

"We are very happy to reach an agreement with the Czech authorities that will ensure the future of the Grand Prix in the Czech Republic for at least the next five years."

The Czech Grand Prix, which has a history stretching back to 1965, has been included in motorcycling's grand prix championship every consecutive year since 1993.

"We're proud to announce that Brno will host MotoGP again in 2016 and the four following years, thanks to the creation of a new public body involving the Meridional Moravia Government and the City of Brno," the Czech minister for Education, Youth and Sports, Katerina Valachova, said.

Jorge Lorenzo claimed the 2015 Brno race on Sunday with a dominant lights-to-flag win over Marc Marquez, to move to the joint top of the championship standings with his Yamaha team-mate, Valentino Rossi.
