Red Bull Ring DTM: Edoardo Mortara leads all-Audi front row

Edoardo Mortara continued his perfect start to the Red Bull Ring's DTM round, securing pole in an all-Audi front row for Saturday afternoon's race

Having topped both practice sessions, Mortara left it late in a 20-minute shootout that was halted by a red flag period.

With eight minutes remaining, Miguel Molina's Audi stopped at Turn 3, after making heavy contact with the sausage kerb on the exit of Turn 1.

When the session resumed, Pascal Wehrlein led the way, just 0.006 seconds clear of Paul di Resta, with Jamie Green and Mattias Ekstrom also provisionally inside the top four.

Mortara was 13th, and had dropped to 14th by the time he pounced with three minutes remaining.

He shot to the top with a 1m24.714s lap, clear by three tenths, and while other drivers continued to improve, they couldn't stop the Italian taking his second career DTM pole, the other also coming at the Austrian circuit in 2012.

Championship leader Green and Wehrlein made gains after the chequered flag - with Green eventually 0.193s shy of Mortara - and will start second and third, ahead of di Resta.

Augusto Farfus was fifth, playing a lone hand for BMW, with the brand's next best drivers Marco Wittmann and Antonio Felix da Costa in 12th and 13th.

Making it five Mercedes inside the top 10, Christian Vietoris, Robert Wickens and Gary Paffett will start sixth, seventh and eighth, ahead of Audi's Ekstrom and Rockenfeller.

Molina will line up 20th, with Timo Glock and Lucas Auer to share the back row of the grid.
