McLaren F1's Stoffel Vandoorne fastest in GP2 Hungary practice

McLaren Formula 1 protege Stoffel Vandoorne led GP2 free practice at the Hungaroring for ART Grand Prix, almost half a second clear of Rio Haryanto

Vandoorne set a time of 1m28.969s early in the 45-minute session and never looked like being beaten.

The Belgian, who like several others ran with a tribute to Jules Bianchi, was the only driver to get under 1m29s.

The rest of the field were significantly closer together with less than a second separating the top 10.

Haryanto was Vandoorne's closest challenger, finishing 0.415s off the pace ahead of William Formula 1 development driver Alex Lynn.

Arthur Pic climbed the order halfway through the session to finish fourth, edging out Lynn's DAMS team-mate Pierre Gasly, who briefly set the pace early on, in fifth.

Ferrari protege Raffaele Marciello finished in sixth, with Andre Negrao and Nick Yelloly close behind.

Silverstone feature race winner Sergey Sirotkin finished the session in ninth with Russian Time driver Mitch Evans rounding out the top 10.

Racing Engineering's Alexander Rossi finished 11th after setting the pace early on but he couldn't improve on his early performance.

This weekend's additions to the field, Nicholas Latifi and Sean Gelael, who both race in Formula Renault 3.5, were well off the pace, finishing 25th and 26th respectively.
